With the following privacy notice, we inform you in particular about the type, scope, purpose, duration, and legal basis of the processing of personal data, insofar as we alone or jointly with others decide on the purposes and means of processing. We also inform you below about third-party components that we use for optimization purposes and to improve the quality of use, insofar as third parties process data under their own responsibility.
Our privacy policy is structured as follows:
I. Information about us as the controller

With regard to the data processing described in more detail below, users and data subjects have the right
to obtain confirmation as to whether data concerning them is being processed, access to the processed data, further information on the data processing, as well as copies of the data (see also Art. 15 GDPR);

This obligation does not apply where such notification proves impossible or involves disproportionate effort. Notwithstanding this, the user has the right to obtain information about these recipients.
Users and data subjects also have the right, pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR, to object to the future processing of data concerning them, where the data are processed by the provider in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. In particular, an objection to processing for direct marketing purposes is permissible.
III. Information on data processing
The data processed when you use our website will be erased or blocked as soon as the purpose of storage no longer applies, there are no statutory retention obligations preventing erasure, and no differing information is provided below for specific processing operations.
Cookies
a) Session cookies
We use so-called cookies on our website. Cookies are small text files or other storage technologies that are placed and stored on your end device by the internet browser you use. These cookies process certain information from you to an individual extent, such as your browser or location data or your IP address.
This processing makes our website more user-friendly, effective, and secure, for example by enabling the display of our website in different languages or the provision of a shopping cart function.
The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, insofar as these cookies process data for the initiation or performance of a contract.
If processing does not serve the initiation or performance of a contract, our legitimate interest lies in improving the functionality of our website. The legal basis is then Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
These session cookies are deleted when you close your internet browser.
b) Third-party cookies
Where applicable, cookies from partner companies with whom we cooperate for the purposes of advertising, analytics, or functionality of our website are also used.
Please refer to the information below for details, in particular on the purposes and legal bases of processing such third-party cookies.
c) Options for removal
You can prevent or restrict the installation of cookies via settings in your internet browser. You can also delete cookies that have already been stored at any time. The steps and measures required for this depend on the specific internet browser you use. If you have questions, please use your browser’s help function or documentation or contact the manufacturer or support. However, the processing of so-called Flash cookies cannot be prevented via the browser settings. Instead, you must change the settings of your Flash player. The steps and measures required for this also depend on the Flash player you use. If you have questions, please use your Flash player’s help function or documentation or contact the manufacturer or user support.
If you prevent or restrict the installation of cookies, this may mean that not all functions of our website are fully usable.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to our free newsletter, the data requested for this purpose, i.e., your email address and—optionally—your name and address, will be transmitted to us. At the same time, we store the IP address of the internet connection you use to access our website as well as the date and time of your registration. As part of the subsequent registration process, we will obtain your consent to the newsletter being sent, describe the content specifically, and refer to this privacy policy. The data collected in this process is used exclusively for sending the newsletter and is not passed on to third parties, in particular.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
You can withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time with future effect in accordance with Art. 7(3) GDPR. To do so, simply inform us of your withdrawal or click the unsubscribe link contained in each newsletter.
Contact inquiries / contact options
If you contact us via contact form or email, the data you provide will be used to process your inquiry. Providing the data is necessary to process and respond to your inquiry—without it, we cannot answer your inquiry or can only do so to a limited extent.
The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Your data will be deleted once your inquiry has been conclusively answered and provided that there are no statutory retention obligations preventing deletion, such as in the event of a subsequent contract processing.
Online job applications / publication of job advertisements
We offer you the opportunity to apply to us via our website. In the case of these digital applications, your applicant and application data are collected and processed electronically by us for the purpose of handling the application process.
The legal basis for this processing is Section 26(1) sentence 1 BDSG (German Federal Data Protection Act) in conjunction with Art. 88(1) GDPR.
If an employment contract is concluded after the application process, we will store the data you transmitted during the application in your personnel file for the purpose of the usual organizational and administrative process—of course taking into account further legal obligations.
The legal basis for this processing is also Section 26(1) sentence 1 BDSG in conjunction with Art. 88(1) GDPR.
If an application is rejected, we automatically delete the data transmitted to us two months after the rejection has been communicated. However, deletion will not take place if the data must be stored for a longer period due to statutory provisions, e.g., due to evidentiary obligations under the AGG (German General Equal Treatment Act), for up to four months or until the conclusion of court proceedings.
The legal basis in this case is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR and Section 24(1) no. 2 BDSG. Our legitimate interest lies in legal defense or enforcement.
If you expressly consent to a longer storage of your data, e.g., for inclusion in an applicant or talent pool, the data will continue to be processed on the basis of your consent. The legal basis is then Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can, of course, withdraw your consent at any time with future effect in accordance with Art. 7(3) GDPR by notifying us accordingly.

Social media linking via graphic or text link
We also advertise presences on the social networks listed below on our website. Integration takes place via a linked graphic of the respective network. By using these linked graphics, it is prevented that, when visiting a website with social media advertising, an automatic connection to the server of the respective social network is established to display a graphic of the network itself. Only by clicking on the corresponding graphic is the user forwarded to the service of the respective social network.
After the user is forwarded, the respective network collects information about the user. It cannot be ruled out that the data collected in this way is processed in the USA.
This data initially includes details such as IP address, date, time, and the page visited. If the user is logged into their user account of the respective network during this time, the network operator may assign the collected information about the specific visit to the user’s personal account. If the user interacts via a “share” button of the respective network, this information may be stored in the user’s personal account and possibly published. If the user wants to prevent the collected information from being directly assigned to their personal account, they must log out before clicking the graphic. There is also the option of configuring the respective user account accordingly.

“Facebook” social plug-in
We use the plug-in of the Facebook social network on our website. Facebook is an online service of Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA. In the EU, this service is operated by Facebook Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Ireland (both hereinafter “Facebook”).
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in improving the quality of our website.
Further information on possible plug-ins and their respective functions is provided by Facebook at
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/
If a plug-in is embedded on one of the pages of our website that you visit, your internet browser downloads a representation of the plug-in from Facebook’s servers in the USA. For technical reasons, Facebook must process your IP address in this context. In addition, the date and time of your visit to our website are recorded.
If you are logged in to Facebook while visiting a page of our website equipped with the plug-in, Facebook recognizes the information collected by the plug-in about your specific visit. Facebook may assign the information collected to your personal user account there. For example, if you use Facebook’s “Like” button, this information is stored in your Facebook user account and may be published via the Facebook platform. If you wish to prevent this, you must either log out of Facebook before visiting our website or use a browser add-on to block the loading of the Facebook plug-in.
Further information on the collection and use of data and your rights and protection options is provided by Facebook in its privacy policy available at:
https://www.facebook.com/policy.php
“Shariff” social media buttons
We use plug-ins of the social networks listed below on our website. To integrate these plug-ins, we use the “Shariff” plug-in.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in improving the quality of our website.
Shariff is an open-source program developed by c’t and heise. By integrating this plug-in, it is prevented—by means of linked graphics—that the social network plug-ins described below automatically establish a connection to the server of the respective social network when you visit our website on which the respective social network plug-in is embedded. Only when you click on one of these linked graphics are you redirected to the service of the respective social network. Only then does the respective social network collect information about the usage process. This information includes, for example, your IP address, the date and time, and the page you visited on our website.
If you are logged in to one of the social network services while visiting one of our websites equipped with the corresponding plug-in, the provider of the respective social network may recognize the information collected about your specific visit and assign it to your personal user account or publish it. For example, if you use the “share” button of the respective social network, this information may be stored in your user account there and published via the platform of the respective provider. If you want to prevent this, you must either log out of the respective social network before clicking the graphic or adjust the corresponding settings in your user account of the social network.
Further information about “Shariff” is provided by heise at:

Usage and user-related information, such as IP address, location, time, or frequency of visits to our website, is transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. However, we use Google Analytics with the so-called anonymization function. With this function, Google shortens the IP address within the EU or EEA.
The data collected is used by Google to provide us with an evaluation of visits to our website and the usage activities on the site. These data may also be used to provide other services related to the use of our website and the internet.
According to Google, your IP address is not merged with other Google data. Moreover, Google provides further information on data protection at

This add-on can be installed in common internet browsers and offers you additional control over the data that Google collects when visiting our website. The add-on informs Google Analytics’ JavaScript (ga.js) that information about your visit to our website should not be transmitted to Google Analytics. This does not prevent information from being transmitted to us or to other web analytics services. Whether and which other web analytics services we use can also be found in this privacy policy.

To analyze usage behavior, etracker stores cookies on your end device via your internet browser and creates a pseudonymous usage profile. The data processed in this context is not used to personally identify you without your separate consent. Nor is this data merged with other personal data.
If you do not agree to this processing, you have the option to prevent the storage of cookies by adjusting your internet browser settings. For more information, please see “Cookies” above.
You can also end the analysis of your usage behavior by opting out. By confirming the link

This service enables Google to determine from which website a request is sent and from which IP address you use the reCAPTCHA input box. In addition to your IP address, other information may be collected by Google that is necessary to provide and ensure this service.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the security of our website and in the defense against unwanted, automated access in the form of spam or similar.

YouTube is a subsidiary of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (hereinafter “Google”).
We use YouTube in connection with the “extended data protection mode” feature to display videos to you. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. According to YouTube, the “extended data protection mode” ensures that the data described in more detail below is only transmitted to YouTube’s server when you actually start a video.
Without this “extended data protection,” a connection to YouTube’s server in the USA is established as soon as you access one of our web pages on which a YouTube video is embedded.
This connection is necessary to display the respective video on our website via your internet browser. In the process, YouTube collects and processes at least your IP address, the date and time, and the page you visited. A connection to Google’s “DoubleClick” advertising network is also established.
If you are logged in to YouTube at the same time, YouTube assigns the connection information to your YouTube account. If you want to prevent this, you must either log out of YouTube before visiting our website or adjust the settings in your YouTube user account accordingly.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in improving the quality of our website.
If you visit a page of our website with an embedded video, a connection to Vimeo’s servers in the USA is established to display the video. For technical reasons, Vimeo must process your IP address. In addition, the date and time of your visit to our website are recorded.
